At the Centre for Women’s Ultrasound, exceptional care begins with exceptional leadership. Our Founder and CEO, A/Prof Indika Alahakoon, is a highly respected Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, Maternal‑Fetal Medicine Specialist, and Sonologist with more than 30 years of experience devoted to women’s health. Her expertise in high‑risk pregnancy care, early fetal diagnosis, and precision ultrasound has made her a trusted specialist for women, GPs, midwives, and obstetricians across Australia.
When A/Prof Indika founded the Centre for Women’s Ultrasound in 2009, her goal was to build more than a diagnostic clinic. She envisioned a dedicated women’s health hub that blended world‑class medical expertise with compassionate, supportive care.
Her philosophy is simple: women deserve an environment where they feel heard, respected, and reassured — especially during the most significant moments of pregnancy.

A Guide To Your Ultrasound
1. Booking Your Appointment
Start by booking at the location that’s most convenient for you ( Bella Vista or Westmead). You can book online through our website or HotDoc. If your GP or specialist has given you a referral, please bring it along, as this may be required for Medicare rebates.
2. Consultation and Guidance
If you already have a referral, we’ll use it to schedule the right scan or procedure for you. If you’re unsure what you need, our team will guide you at this stage. One of our specialists can discuss your situation, symptoms or pregnancy stage to determine the most appropriate scan.
3. Preparing for Your Scan or Procedure
Once your appointment is confirmed, you’ll receive instructions tailored to the type of scan. Some require a full bladder, others may need to be timed with your cycle, while many need no preparation at all. Bringing your Medicare card and any past imaging results will also be helpful.
4. On the Day
When you arrive, our reception team will check you in. A sonographer or clinician will walk you through the process, answer questions and help you feel comfortable. Your scan or procedure will then be carried out using our advanced ultrasound technology.
5. After Your Appointment
Your images are reviewed by our specialists and a detailed report is sent directly to your referring doctor. If further steps are recommended, we’ll guide you on how to proceed. Payment and Medicare rebates are finalised before you leave, keeping the process straightforward.
