Ultrasounds are an important part of your pregnancy to ensure your baby is remaining healthy
Preeclampsia Screening using Fetal Medicine Foundation , London algorithm
We offer a screening program to test the potential to develop preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction during the pregnancy.
Preeclampsia is a major cause of adverse outcome for mother and fetus, often requiring early delivery and can produce significant risk to the mother.
Evidence suggests that the administration of low-dose aspirin initiated before 16 weeks’ gestation significantly reduces the rate of preterm preeclampsia (reduce preterm preeclampsia by 70%). Therefore, it is important to identify pregnant women at risk of developing preeclampsia during the first trimester of pregnancy, thus allowing opportunity for prevention, closer monitoring and timely delivery.
Preeclampsia screening is performed using a combination of multiple markers including maternal medical history, measurement of mean arterial pressure, estimation of the maternal serum levels of placental growth factor, pregnancy associated plasma protein-A, and recording the Uterine artery mean pulsatility index, performed in the first trimester between 12 and 13 + 6 weeks.
At centre for Women’s Ultrasound, we offer preeclampsia screening at the time of the First Trimester Fetal Morphology scan at 12-13 weeks.
Please enquire about preeclampsia screening when booking your first-trimester morphology scan.
